A brief note on the parish

The St. Peter's & St. Paul's Indian Orthodox Church based in Drogheda, Ireland was founded in the year 2006 by the prayerful and pioneering initiative of Rev. Fr. T George with the support of a handful of aspiring faithful living in and around Drogheda and working in the Health Care Sector.

This is a community of men and women of Indian origin living in Ireland upholding Christian faith, values and life in its genuine form and belongs to that section of the historic church founded by St Thomas, the disciple of Christ and the apostle to India, which seeks to maintain an Eastern Character of Christianity within the Indian Context. Based in the historic city of Drogheda, this community believes in true Christian love and seeks to promote fellowship of an ecumenical nature.

Today, the parish is rapidly proliferating with a membership of 30 member families. Holy Services are conducted at the premises of St Peter's Church of Ireland, Drogheda, County Louth. The functioning of spiritual organisations such as the Sunday School, Youth Movement, Vanitha Samajam (Women's Fellowship) and family prayer fellowship, all contribute to the progress of the parish. The Parish Choir gives flavour and favour to the divine liturgy. The Merin George Foundation is a philanthropic activity of the parish by which the needs of many people are met.

A WORD FROM THE VICAR

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. ” (St. John 1:1-9/SAAS.)

The concept of ‘Global Village’ is now a reality. Information technology has tremendously influenced people from all walks of life. It could bring down the distance between the far-off continents.

The internet provides anyone with access to a computer or a smartphone–chiefly available to those in the West –with a global audience. Many religious organisations, both large and small, have their own website on the internet and use it to propagate their message globally.

In tandem with the modern trend, we – the St. Peter's & St. Paul's Indian Orthodox Church based in the beautiful city of Drogheda in Ireland - felt it necessary to have our own website so that we may be made known to the world at large. God has been so gracious to grant us the grace to create and launch a website with the ID

This website highlights the faith, life and activities of the Indian Orthodox Christians living in and around the historic city of Drogheda, and its suburbs. We believe that we are called to bear witness to Jesus, the true Light of the world, by being the beacons of light to the world.

“Church is a miniature form of heaven on earth; a place where a stream of life-giving water flows; a place where healing, beatitude and peace are given ; a harbour for those who are lost in darkness of fear, anxiety, and sorrow”.
